About
Nau mai, haere mai ki Pā Tōrea!
We are Emily & Grant and we look forward to welcoming you to this special place.
Once the home of Grant’s tūpuna (ancestors), although amazingly unknown to him at the time of purchase, we feel a deep sense of connection and kaitiakitanga (guardianship) to this land. We endeavour to do all we can to restore the native forest and provide a healthy environment for native flora and fauna to thrive. This includes our local resident tōrea!
A flock of tōrea (pied oystercatchers) can be found resting at the high tide mark at certain times of year along with the tōrea pango (black variable oystercatchers), often seen in pairs. We usually have a nesting pair throughout the summer at our beach entrance. Please take care when heading onto the beach so as not to disturb them or any young chicks. This is also the reason we unfortunately cannot accept dogs on the property.
We would love for you to be able to soak up the beauty of this place and slow down the pace of life to a simpler way of being where you can unwind surrounded by lush greenery just steps away from the shoreline.
Enjoy your morning coffee in your own outside space with ocean views, explore the nearby pristine beaches, including Wharariki and Farewell Spit, embark on some water sports (we have kayaks or a paddle board you can borrow), feast on a sunset BBQ, indulge in a starlit bath or take scenic walks along a multitude of trails. We have plenty of local knowledge we can share with you if required, including fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking and local attractions.
Whether you're seeking a romantic retreat, a family getaway, or a personal escape, our accommodation offers the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure, all supported by this beautiful environment.
Nō te whenua te mana, ko te whenua anō. Ka poipoia inaianei mō āpōpō.
Our mana is from the land, indeed it is the land. We nurture it now for the future.
Mauri Ora,
Emily & Grant
